Way back in the day, definitely before the boomers. The mountain men out west in the Rockies used to have a thing called a Rendezvous (I know, it sounds suspiciously French - but remember French fries and French toast ;) !). I was thinking that overall in the "Bear community"
I noticed the other day that there was a gun range outside of Martinsburg, West Virginia that seems to be open (as West Virginia doesn't seem to have a Tyrannical governor like 92% of the Mid-Atlantic states). Maybe some day (a Saturday?) we could have a shooting range day (or hour depending on budget - at least gas is cheap). We could find a nearby park for families with kids to hangout and picnic. Maybe workout a fee system for some families to provide burgers and munchies for a few bucks (maybe different fee schedules to accommodate the unemployed). We could maybe have a little networking business card/resume exchange and have each adult stand up and give their 15-30 second elevator pitch (I.e. "I am looking to hire welders", "I am looking for a job, and this is what I have done in the past" etc.). If people are shy about public speaking I'll volunteer to do it for them. If we have some West Virginia Smoky Bears (is that a thing still? I am talking about police) maybe they and some West Virginia Bear CCW holders or veterans or whatever - I don't think we as a group will have trouble with security if we do a little planning. We could have a higher end event towards the end of the day and go to a restaurant for BBQ or something. I only know a couple of German restaurants out that way and the West Virginia one is definitely higher end than what I am thinking, the Hagerstown, MD one not so much.
Anyways, starting write this post inspired me to write the attached file (please read). I have also put it out on the Bear Saloon website so you may have already read it there.
Hey 1683. My family is looking at a place north of Johnstown...near Westmoreland Co. I should be going to look at it next weekend or so. We're in Kennett Square, PA now, but I think homesteading is in our future. Have you made any moves getting closer to moving there?
We're doing a meetup in West Chester today with several bears and based bear-adjacents. It's late notice, but not extremely far from Havre de Grace. So let me know if you want to come.
