Mound Up (how to plant cow pumpkins, watermelon, cantaloupe...)

Started by Laconic Bear in Garden Gravy-A Place to Grow and Share 1 month ago

1.  Dig a whole 2-3 rogans deep and fill it with manure (left picture)

2.  Cover the manure with all the dirt from the hole, creating a mound

3.  Plant your seeds at the top of the mound (right picture)

4. Water and wait.

The black plastic is to help cut down on weeds.

Don't for get to thin them out! It is tempting to think more plants equals more fruit but this is not so. The plants will have to compete for nutrients and no one plant will get enough. By thinning them you allow a few healthy plants to thrive.

I dont have the soil for melons so I have some in a container. I have a metal tomato circle thing so I am going to put it in the pot to encourage the melons to grow up. Not sure if it will work but its my first time so I'm going to go for it. My folks have the land for the above method. I will pass the tips onto them. Thanks for posting.
